LML in picture

There is no longer a cookie cutter template with writing on the Internet anymore. This is Lateral Multi directional Literacy in imagine, taken from the blog, http://wordandimage.wordpress.com/catergory/children
The problem with structure on the Internet is that there is none. Even though you can follow the grammar rules, piecing them together is another thing. With this new internet style, the brain now has to process the information and allow the individual to move seemlessly from page to page, reading the different sites. All while retaining the information. A whole new cognitive set of skills are now needed. This is a huge change, even dating back 10 to 15 years. The internet is changing how we read, write, and comprehend new information.

Digital Connect the Dots

Ever feel like you didn't get quite the same set of instructions as everyone else!?!

Connect the dots in the pattern above (taken from http://www.bdonline.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=3141076) and you get a famous historical building...miss a couple numbers or go off on a tangent and you come up with something unrecognizable. It's a little like research in the digital age.

When I was a lass, it was a card catalogue and piles of books. These days you start with a search on 'sandboxes' and end up on a porn site! The road to digital literacy is littered with the emoticons of those who have taken a wrong turn and fallen by the way side. Unfortunately, there is no readily available filter to skim off the chaff and leave us with the pertinent information. Old fashion or not...give me the card catalogue!
